I'm confused. This feature is built into the area command already. Atleast it is in 2005. Straight from the help file. Turns on Add mode and keeps a running balance of the total area as you continue to define areas. The Add option calculates the individual areas and perimeters of defined areas and objects as well as the total area of all defined areas and objects.
